I say this to myself in certain situations, often when I’m not sure what to do, how to do it, or if I can do it.
I think and often say it out loud; “One life Liam, whether it breaks you or kills you, you get one life to do this.”
This applies to SO many situations, and it’s a game changer, really. Exhausted? One Life boet, keep going. Nervous because she’s way out of your league? One Life bru, go talk to her. Curious? One Life china, go find out. Cautious? One Life chom, don’t play it safe. Gut feeling? You guessed it, One Life pal, trust it.
It’s not existential philosophical advice, it’s motivation to make decisions that result in fewer regrets and faster growth in character. More life experience over less. Just like that old saying, ‘You don’t regret the things you do, you regret the things you don’t’.
To solidify that last point here are some great, and very true examples:
If you didn’t do those last few reps, and then you lose the race or the competition, you INSTANTLY know why you lost. Because you shied away from the work when it came time to do it.
If you wake up and you’re 30 or 40 and you haven’t travelled or built the business or done the marathon, the pain you feel in your soul is familiar. It’s regret welling up inside you from too many chances to live but choosing to play it safe. Living like you’ll somehow get to wake up young one day and have another shot at doing it all over. Hate to break it to you but you won’t.
Life is meant to lived as vibrantly and ambitious as possible. Take the risks and the chances. Spend the money. Kiss the girl. Stay up for the sunrise. Go on the wave. Pick up the mic or the camera and hit record.
Why?
Because the consequences of NOT LIVING are unfathomable right now, and unbearable later on.
ONE LIFE.
