The ‘Right’ Path

Ever wondered what drives the elite to become that way? The simple answer, necessity.

Feel like you have untapped potential, like you can do something great? Still don’t know what that is though? Is it calling out to you from the shadows, never showing you its face, but always letting you know that it is there? Terrible isn’t it. What if there IS a way to find it, to bring light to the shadowed area it berates you from. Because you already know that when you find it, you’ll know you’ve found it. At least that’s how I feel.

It’s gnawing at my brain, in my thoughts conscious and subconscious, in my dreams, in my speech, in my daily routine and habits. Constantly reminding me that I have some purpose that is going to feed the fire in my soul every moment that I’m chasing it. That my deepest worries about never being enough will disappear once I start working on the one thing that actually matters to me. Well I’ve got news for you pal. You can find it.

We all have this thing we call a gut feeling. We let ourselves be directed and influenced by it all the time. Yet sometimes we ignore it for any number of reasons. Weird right? Yes. But I’m convinced our gut feelings, along with some other really intense feelings we get are not coincidental or accidental or just plain old feelings at all. These feelings, are sign posts, warnings, confirmations, directions. They’re telling us exactly what is right and wrong, not for the world or the moral conscience, but for us. individually. Sometimes a few people might all get the same feeling, at the same time. Sometimes they end up being the greatest band or sports team to grace our eyes and ears. Coincidence? You tell me.

Now. It isn’t exactly a science, or at least I can’t explain it to you that way. But these feelings are not always easy to read or even to notice while they are present. Seems kind of unfair, in a way, right? Sure is. That’s life. Get on with it. Learn, make mistakes, do better. How? Look up. Stop treating your phone as if it’s your whole world. It’s not, no matter how much it might seem that way it’s not. How can it be, when you can’t eat it, drink it or breath it? It has absolutely no value to your primary needs. yet we all treat our phones as if we might die if we don’t check them all the time. That is what is ruining our abilities to notice the feelings that guide us on our own unique individual ‘right’ paths. Now this does not apply to everyone, exactly. Some people make a living with their phones, but they are not living because of their phones. Some people discovered the right path for them using their phones or without their phones and are now content to follow their path while using their phones. Can’t fault them. Still, a phone is not food water or oxygen. Keep that in mind.

Those primary needs. They call to you, every single day. And every single day, every single time, you listen. Don’t believe me? Why does your stomach grumble or turn then, why does your mouth get parched, why does your breath get short or caught? Aha. Now you see. Your stomach grumbles because you’re hungry, but it’ll flip when you’re scared or nervous. That should tell you something. Your mouth gets parched when you’re thirsty, but it does that for other reasons too. You’re a smart kid, you can figure out why. Your breath gets caught when you see a beautiful woman, or when you see something you absolutely did not expect. That’s a feeling for sure, isn’t it? You catch my drift. The feeling you get when you find YOUR thing, feels similar to being starving, parched or sick to your stomach. It’s a needy feeling. An itch that needs to be scratched. Like water and food, it’s a necessity. Thats often where healthy obsession is discovered, and that can very easily lead to greatness when mixed with consistency.

Your purpose? Look out for that feeling. Sure you might not even know what that feeling is yet, but you sure will when you do feel it the first time. And after that it’s unmistakeable. When you start doing what is meant for you, specifically and individually for you, you’ll feel ‘right’. Things will align. Things will feel good. They won’t necessarily be easy, I am definitely not saying that. What I’m saying is that once you know, you’ll know. So how do you find it then? Start looking. Everywhere. At home, on the way to work, in other people, in books, in places, in sounds, in the wind, in yourself, in everything. This also means not looking at your phone for 6 hours a day, because then you’re significantly increasing the chances you DON’T find it. We all envy the kid who finds his path so young and becomes great so early in life. He didn’t have a phone at all when he started playing piano or guitar or whatever it was. Only finding your path when you’re 35 is SO much better than never finding it at all. Being great, or recognised by others as great – which is much less important than actually being great and often happens as a result of being great and on the right path regardless – could happen over night or it could take years. Only one way to find out. Look up. And more importantly look out for that feeling.
